What a gem. This place has a proper intimate vibe - immersive underground feels, friendly people, a room full of heads there for the music. The Funktion-One system absolutely delivers, with serious weight and crystal-clear sound. Easily one of the best-sounding systems in Perth. Catching Doc Scott rinse out a phenomenal set was something special. A genuine legend, and being able to stand just metres away and watch him work was unreal. The dancefloor was locked in from start to finish. The whole place has that feeling of an underground club from the ‘90s or an unforgettable house party that’s somehow stayed a well-kept secret. If you’re into proper sound systems, legendary DJs amd well curated events and authentic culture, this place is a stand out.
This is a great venue with awesome sound and lots of spaces inside and out to sit, dance, have a smoke, have fun. Many will remember the Swan Basement days, great to see it thriving in a new era. Longstanding patrons will tell you about the party goblin who lives in the nearby river, between the two bridges that connect North Freo and Freo proper. The goblin slithers into the venue from time to time, you will never recognise them because they can shapeshift into the form of any human at will, but keep alert and you will see signs. You will see one person go into the toilet cubicle and a different person will come out. You will be sitting with your mates and there will be a strange bloke you’ve never met before, sitting there mumbling and cackling – he goes for a leak and you ask your mates who knows him, and none of them do. A mate told me one evening during a show recently there was a baby crawling along the bar, all alone, happy as anything! He looked around for the parents but when he looked back bub was gone. Same night, a girl friend told me she was with her bestie only a half hour ago and she was fine, but now she's talking nonsense, there's a crazy look in her eye and she's doing things VERY out of character. Went to grab her some water but then she's fine again, has no idea why you're freaking out. It's the goblin, I explained to her, probably changed form but still around here somewhere.
