Description
This rustic country tour showcases rural Western Australia, focusing on small farmers, local growers, and authentic Perth locals who contribute to the region's unique character.
Travel along dirt roads to visit farm gate produce sheds and a monastery, offering experiences not commonly found in supermarkets. With just five guests per tour, the experience remains personal and intimate.
The tour departs Perth at 8:00 am and begins at a tropical garden oasis featuring over 450 bird species. Visitors can see white peacocks, scarlet-breasted parrots, and vibrant macaws inside free-flight botanical aviaries.
Next, the group travels to a sustainable, off-the-grid farm gate tasting shed. Here, guests sample homemade feta and camembert cheeses and goat’s milk gelato in six different flavors, while learning about the farm’s sustainable methods.
The tour continues at Little Eeden Honey Farm, where you’ll sample local Western Australian bush honey. During lunch, watch for the large flightless Australian emus that live on the farm.
History enthusiasts will appreciate exploring New Norcia, founded in 1847 by Spanish monks as Australia’s only active monastery. The town features a blend of European traditions, Aboriginal culture, and spiritual heritage.
Highlights in New Norcia include the well-preserved Benedictine Abbey with its grand Moser pipe organ and sgraffito murals, plus the historic New Norcia Hostel, monastery residence, St Ildephonsus College, and Gothic Revival St Gertrude’s Boarding School. The Mediterranean architecture contrasts with Australian outback surroundings.
Before returning, guests can enjoy beverages such as the Abbey Ale brewed from an ancient recipe, a locally infused gin and tonic, or freshly squeezed Australian orange juice.
The tour concludes with a scenic 1.5-hour drive back to Perth, arriving just after 5:30 pm.
