Description
Travel through the Swan Valley to New Norcia, Australia’s only monastic town known for its Benedictine Abbey. Experience the town’s rich history, art, and architecture with a guided tour of its main sites, including the museum and art gallery. Discover artefacts gifted by popes and Spanish royalty from the period when New Norcia served as an Aboriginal mission.
Visit the Abbey Church to see one of only two large Moser organs in Australia, crafted in Germany. Then explore St Gertrude’s College, a gothic-style building originally opened in 1908 as a girls’ boarding school.
Stop at the produce shop featuring olive oil, fruit, wine, New Norcia nut cake, and breads before enjoying a fish and chips lunch. Continue to Nambung National Park for an easy walk through the Pinnacles Desert and views from the lookout. Time permitting, visit the Pinnacle Desert Discovery Centre.
Return to Perth via Indian Ocean Drive, arriving around 19:30.
