My favorite beach from rotto! Amazing water colour, insanely clear water, full of fish. Perfect for snorkeling and diving. Been there in the summer and winter and both times was the best beach on the island.
If you are looking for the quintessential Rottnest Island experience, Little Salmon Bay is an absolute must-visit. While its big sister, Salmon Bay, gets a lot of the spotlight - though I fear Little Salmon Bay is now the worst kept secret - this cozy limestone cove offers an intimacy and charm that is hard to beat. This is arguably the best snorkel spot on the island for beginners and pros alike. There is a marked underwater snorkel trail with plaques that guide you through the diverse marine life and coral formations. Keep an eye out for the bright Western Buffalo Bream! Get there early to snag your spot on the sand and enjoy the magic Rottnest has to offer.
No visit to Rottnest Island is complete without a visit to Little Salmon Bay. If you are thinking of exploring this island paradise on your own, the following tips can help make your journey smoother. 1. Do arrive as early as possible: less windy; much calmer water and less crowded beach 2. Be careful: the nearest toilets are at Parker Point 3. Don’t forget to bring your own swimming, snorkelling and diving equipment with you 4a. Go for a 25-minute bike ride instead of walking (>5km away from the main settlement) OR 4b. Little Salmon Bay is an absolute paradise and a must-visit spot on Rottnest Island! The water is an incredible, crystal-clear turquoise that looks even better in person than in photos. It’s a fantastic place for swimming or just taking in the stunning coastal scenery from the lookout points. The white sandy beach contrasted against the rugged rocks makes for some of the best views on the entire island. I visited during a weekday, and the atmosphere was peaceful and perfectly relaxing. If you’re looking for that picture-perfect Western Australian beach experience, this is definitely it—5 stars all the way!
Little Salmon Bay, which is part of the Parker Point Marine Sanctuary, is a popular tourist attraction on Rottnest Island. As it is a designated bus stop, the area is frequently busy with visitors. Despite the relatively cool weather in October, there were still a few brave individuals swimming in the water. While the crowds add a lively atmosphere, I also felt a slight sense of discomfort due to the high volume of tourists. That said, the bay is truly stunning on a sunny day. This highlights the fact that sunny weather is essential to appreciate the beautiful scenery here, so one should definitely aim to visit the island on a clear day. Enjoy the clear, transparent blue of the ocean!
