Rottnest Island lighthouse (Wadjemup lighthouse) was built in 1896 at the highest point of the island to provide a safe sailing passage for ships to Fremantle harbour and swan river colony (Perth). It completed 150 years on 17th March this year. It was an amazing experience to climb up the 155 spiralling stairs and get to the very top of the tower and see 360 degrees view of Rottnest Island from the top. It is the 4th tallest lighthouse in Australia and has a light range of over 26 nautical miles. Definitely worth a visit when visiting Rottnest Island.
Such a peaceful place with stunning beaches. Highly recommend for a day trip or weekend escape. Will definitely comeback for the hiking trails.
Took my mom to Rottnest whilst she’s visiting Australia. Made it to the lighthouse right before a tour started! The tour was run by a lovely volunteer named Robin who was full of knowledge about the lighthouse, Rottnest, and Perth area! Was a nice escape from the sun and provided a beautiful view and great memories.
Wadjemup Lighthouse was a highlight of my Rottnest trip.The walk up to the top is worth every step the views from up high are stunning all the way around the island. You can see the coastline stretch for miles and the ocean colours are unreal. The lighthouse itself has so much character and history, and it’s such a cool piece of Aussie heritage. Climbing up gave me a bit of a workout but the panorama at the top was such a great reward. Even just hanging around the base, watching the waves and birds, was super relaxing. Friendly staff, clear info about the area, and great photo moments everywhere you look. If you’re on Rottnest, don’t skip this it’s a must-see
I walked all the way to Wadjemup Lighthouse from the port on Rottnest Island. I didn't use a bicycle, only trekking. It takes a bit of time to get here, but the path was pleasant and well-suited for a trek. As a prominent landmark on the island, the lighthouse was a clear goal and destination for my walk. I was quite tired from the walk, so I took a moment to rest on a bench. The cool breeze was very refreshing. Since the lighthouse is located on high ground, you look down towards the port, and the scenery is also excellent.
