The Basin

The Basin at Rottnest Island is probably my favourite spot on the island. The vibe is just so relaxing, especially with the outdoor seating where you can sit and enjoy your lunch while taking in the beautiful surroundings. What makes it extra special are the little surprises — quokkas and even the occasional reptile coming by to visit. It adds such a unique and memorable touch to the experience. Honestly, it’s the kind of place where you can just sit, enjoy the breeze, and soak in the scenery without rushing. Definitely one of those spots that stays with you long after you leave.
The Basin in a beautiful spot to stop om Rottnest island. Crystal clear water and a pristine white beach. Great for swimming and snorkeling. From there you can go on to the other lovely beaches on the island, to the salt lakes, the lighthouse and the other side of the coast where the sea appears to be a bit wilder. Beautiful nature.
A great beach to relax, swim and snorkelling. Some decent fish around the reef and the beach is sheltered. There's also a cafe and toilets which is a bonus later in the day
Excellent place for snorkeling especially with kids with fairly shallow waters for quite a distance. Just a short bike ride (or a 15-20 minutes walk) from the Thomson Bay settlement, makes it the perfect start to a day at the island. Easy access to clean changing rooms, toilets, fresh water showers and food(Havza).
Amongst the many points on Rottnest Island, the Baisin makes for an excellent family friendly swimming cove. Located just a short and pleasant 15-20 minute walk from the main Thomson Bay Settlement, its calm, turquoise waters are protected by a natural ring of limestone rocks, making it ideal for a gentle swim or a safe splash with children. The amenities are excellent for an island location, with clean change rooms, toilets, and freshwater showers available. It's a fantastic spot for snorkeling right from the shore, with small fish often visible around the rocky edges. For the best experience, arrive earlier in the day to enjoy its serenity before it gets busy, and consider bringing your own snorkel gear. Its proximity to the settlement and great facilities make it one of the most accessible and enjoyable beaches on the island.
