Well run, clean, good bathroom, great kitchen and like the fact you get a key for the dorm room so no door code pin more practical. Bit of a bad smell in some parts of hostel. Good price

The reviews I read before booking seemed positive. Regrettably, my experience was not. The front desk schedule is erratic, and you can only contact the hostel staff if you have an Australian phone number. The hostel was constantly packed with men, many of whom appeared to live there. Most dorms have piles of construction boots outside them, suggesting that construction crews are living there full time. It also seems many of the residents drive for Ubereats while living at the hostel. The ratio of men to women felt like 100:2. The common spaces and kitchen were full of men who didn’t seem to be there for travel purposes. Also, when we left early one morning for an activity, there were many men sleeping on furniture in the common spaces or the hallway…. The facilities were also a bit run down and dodgey. Overall the price seemed high for the low quality of the stay that we had. The glowing reviews I read before booking were not my experience in the slightest.

My wife Kim and I recently had the absolute pleasure of staying at Emperor's Crown, and I feel compelled to put into words just how extraordinary the experience truly was. From the moment we arrived, it became immediately clear that this was not just another hostel — it is something far rarer: a place with genuine heart, personality, and soul. Kim and I had an absolutely wonderful time during our stay. The environment is welcoming, relaxed, and full of friendly energy. Conversations spark easily, laughter seems to echo through the hallways, and there is a sense that everyone who passes through becomes part of a little temporary community. It's the kind of place where strangers become friends over coffee in the morning or a casual chat in the evening. What really sets Emperor's Crown apart is that it feels alive. Many hostels provide beds; this one provides an experience. There is an authenticity here that cannot be manufactured or franchised. It comes from people. If you are travelling and looking for a place that is welcoming, beautifully run, full of warmth, and guided by people who clearly pour their hearts into what they do, then I cannot recommend Emperor's Crown highly enough. Kim and I left feeling grateful, refreshed, and already nostalgic for the place. With love, Zawad

This hostel is an absolute gem! It’s extremely cheap, much more so than other hostels in the area, and much nicer than others close by too. The kitchen is fantastic, it has 6 stoves, and pigeon holes for everyone to store their food. The staff are wonderful. People are very friendly, and the location is great, walking distance to all the good spots in the city. We had an amazing stay here and would highly recommend this hostel :)
