Description

After a 45-minute drive south from Perth (PLEASE NOTE city ups are between 7:45 and 8:15am) to Shoalwater Marine Park (If you don't require transport, meet time at Shoalwater Bay is 9am), a beautiful bay with several limestone islands. We introduce people to each other and the equipment. We use easy-to-paddle double kayaks with waterproof compartments. Our first paddle is to Seal Island, approximately 1 kilometer away, where we will look at Australian Sea Lions. Under the conditions usually experienced (light easterly breeze), this section will take about 15 minutes. Next, we paddle approximately 2 kilometers (about 30 minutes) to Penguin Island, where we land for a guided nature walk before sitting down to enjoy an excellent picnic lunch. After this, people can fall asleep under a tree or in the sun, snorkel, swim, do some more kayaking, or explore the coast and caves of the island. We usually take people on a nature walk around the island to discover the many and varied shellfish, starfish, crabs, sea birds (including a Pelican Colony), lizards, dolphins, and great views of the bay. Around 2:30 pm we muster for the return to Australia, often rafting the boats up and sailing back if the winds are right. This is a distance of approximately 2.5 kilometers. After packing the gear and changing into dry clothes (there is a toilet block at the start/finish point), we drive back to Perth, arriving around 4:30 p.m.
