Departing Perth, we head north through scenic bushland and charming country towns. After around 1.5 hours, we stop at Guilderton Lookout – a stunning viewpoint perched above the Indian Ocean and Moore River. Offering panoramic views over vast sand dunes and turquoise coastline, it’s a peaceful and photogenic alternative to the currently closed Lancelin dunes. From here, we journey into wildflower country, with a seasonal visit to Nilgen Nature Reserve. If in bloom, the area becomes a vibrant tapestry of native flora like kangaroo paws, banksias, and grass trees – a haven for local wildlife and photographers alike. Out of season, we explore the tranquil shores of Hangover Bay, where you can dip your toes in crystal-clear waters or spot dolphins and sea lions playing just offshore. As the afternoon winds down, we arrive at Nambung National Park, home to the otherworldly Pinnacles Desert. These ancient limestone formations, created from seashells over millions of years, rise mysteriously from the golden sands.
